Hello everyone!
It’s been a long while since I’ve written in my blog. I woke up this morning feeling happy and exhilarated, from the memory of all the happy faces of people who trusted me and Spotlight On YOU Open Mic enough as a safe place to come and experiment with what they love to do in the Spotlight.
It is hard to imagine that 8 years ago, I was at that low point in my life where I’ve been away from music for years, driven by my need to perform without a direction of where and how to make it happen. It was then that I discovered the Singers Forum, which changed my life.
I met Lennie Watts and Steven Ray Watkins, who introduced me to the cabaret world through”Get Your Act Together” and I met my late friend, John Koprowski who produced and hosted the Singers Forum Open Mic.
There were a bunch of open mics around the city. However, the monthly Singers Forum Open Mic was unique in that it provided a safe and supportive environment without judgment. No pressure, just people there to experiment and try out what they love in the Spotlight. John believed in supporting the music community and artists of all ages in performing. Imagine my surprise when he asked me to co-host the open mic with him! It was a tremendous honor. He shared his vision with me and said he believed that I can relate to his vision and provide an anchor for his concept. From that vision, we went on to produce Spotlight On YOU Open Mic. The universe gave me what I need when I needed it. This is the way I am giving back!
I may have mentioned to some of you that my life mission is “To inspire, heal, and help people find their innate happiness”. In providing the safe, supportive environment for performers at Spotlight On YOU Open Mic, my shared vision with John Koprowski, when I see the happy faces of those of you on stage doing what you love and in promoting music and artists, I am taking steps in fulfilling my life mission!
Thank you for your confidence and being part of the Spotlight On YOU Family!
